Philips Norelco 7735X Cool Skin Lotion Dispensing Shaver

I like this razor very much. I am indeed getting blade-close shaves, but I think it is important to use the razor properly if you expect that close of a shave. I get the best results by pressing lightly against my face (despite my instinct to push harder to shave closer) and moving the head around somewhat slowly. I also get good results with the lotion when I have rinsed the head off with water. It dilutes the rather thick lotion and seems like it works better.

After experiencing some promising yet disappointing results with my Quadra Action shaver, I did some investigating and decided to purchase a new electric shaver. Closeness of shave and neck irritation have been two problems for me, so I made the decision to try a wet/dry shaver. Having had decent results with my Quadra Action, I impulse-bought a Norelco Cool Skin 7735X. After the first shave I was impressed. Today, after the second shave, all I can say is "WOW." For once, (and I'm 100% serious) the result was a shave every bit as close as a blade with almost NO irritation! This shaver is beautiful! My only concerns are that is feels 'cheap.' However, there is a 2 yr guarantee, so that shouldn't be an issue. Second, Norelco really needs to jump on the bandwagon and NOT use NiCad batteries. The unit requires an 8 hour charge for 40 mins of cordless shaving. The unit also includes a charging holster which is cumbersome and will not fit in the included travel pouch. Also, despite being a wet/dry razor, Norelco suggests you always use the lotion packs for 'best results.' Funnily enough, I asked a representative on their site if you could use your own shaving gel/cream and they said no and that using anything other than the Nivea packets may 'damage' the shaver. Uh, ok. However, so far so good. Norelco says 1 Nivea packet should last a week, so 5 packets per $5 pack x 365 days = about $52 a year on top of the price of the shaver for the Nivea packs. How soon until we see a store-brand knock-off for the packs? I'll keep you posted.
